Fredonia Elementary Students Celebrate Earth Day by Planting Seeds of Hope and
Growth

By Lumen Ihong

Fredonia, AZ – April 22, 2025 – In celebration of Earth Day, the Kindergarten through Second
Grade students of Fredonia Elementary School embraced the beauty of nature by planting trees
and greenery beside the District Office building. With bare hands and bright smiles, these young
Earth stewards connected with the soil, learning firsthand what it means to care for the planet.
This heartwarming event was made possible through the combined efforts of supportive
parents, dedicated teachers, school staff, and generous members of the community. A special
shout-out goes to the United Church of Kanab, K–2 parents, and the Fredonia-Moccasin Unified
School District administration, whose donations of nursery plants and continued support brought
this meaningful experience to life.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Joel Dutton, who kindly dug the holes ahead of
time so students could safely and easily plant. A sincere thank-you also goes to Ms. Dorene
Mudrow for her unwavering support in coordinating and helping make this event a success.
The planting activity was not only an opportunity to enhance the school grounds, but also a
hands-on lesson in environmental responsibility and community collaboration. Students gained
a deeper appreciation for nature and the impact they can make, even at a young age.
Second grader Breckyn Grover reflected on the experience with heartfelt words: “I will always
remember this day. Even when I grow old, I’ll cherish the memory of planting this tree and know
it’s still standing because of me.”

As the children gently placed each plant into the earth, they weren’t just participating in a school
activity—they were creating a legacy of love, responsibility, and environmental care that will
take root for years to come.

At Fredonia Elementary, we believe in growing together—and thanks to the support of our
incredible community, our students continue to blossom in every way.
